Kirad Community

Kirad is the name of Hindu community. The people of this community are mostly settled in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. The word Kirad means people who fight in the battlefield. In Maharashtra Kirads are mostly settled in Nagpur, Amravati, Achalpur, Pune etc.
In Amravati district they are mostly settled in towns like Pathrot, Parsapur, Haram, Khamjamanagar etc. The People of Kirad community speaks Kiradi language which is easy to understand as it is similar to Hindi. Kiradi people were called Malgujar during British rule. The most common surnames in Kirad community is Varma, Dongre, Khojre, Gasone, Narete, Tehre, Badratiye, Rongre etc. The primary occupation of people in the Kirad community is farming. Kirad community is divided into four subgroups: Dhakad, Vidur, Choriya, Karan. Dhakads are mostly found in Amravati district.
